Delhi’s First Electric DTC Bus Prototype Arrives, To Be Flagged Off Soon By CM Arvind Kejriwal
Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot took to Twitter to confirm that a prototype of DTCs first fully electric bus has arrived in Delhi. It will be soon flagged off by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
A prototype of a fully electric bus, which will be inducted into the Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) fleet, has arrived after a long wait. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Sunday took to Twitter to confirm this development and also announced that the e-bus will be soon flagged off by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The transport department is procuring 300 electric buses whose delivery was due to begin in November 2020. However, it got deferred because of several reasons, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Congrats Delhi! After a long wait, a prototype of DTC’s first 100 per cent electric bus has reached Delhi! CM Arvind Kejriwal will soon flag off this electric bus,” Gahlot said in a tweet.
As a part of the larger plan, more electric buses will be inducted into the DTC in the coming months. Around 3,500 new e-buses will be added to DTC and Cluster fleet as per the induction plan of the transport department.
The Delhi Transport Department last year floated tenders for induction of 140 low-floor AC electric buses, aiming to strengthen the public transport flee, as well as keeping a check on air pollution. Moreover, the DTC Board has also approved the induction of 1,245 low-floor buses, including 1,015 electric buses, to augment the ageing fleet of the public transporter in the city.
