eBikeGO acquires rights to manufacture Velocipedo electric trike in India

eBikeGo, one of India’s leading electric two-wheeler mobility platforms, has acquired the rights to manufacture the smart electric trike, “Velocipedo” of Spanish automotive company Torrot in India. With this agreement, eBikeGo now plans to enter the luxury electric three-wheeler industry and aims to manufacture these scooters. The three-wheeled Velocipedo has already bagged worldwide appreciation by winning the RedDot Design Award, an internationally coveted award for design. The Velocipedo is meant to provide the benefits of an electric scooter but with better stability owing to its three-wheeled design.

eBikeGo has signed an agreement with Spanish company Torrot to manufacture the electric trike in India.

The smart electric trike is equipped with two front wheels and one rear wheel, and has a carbon fibre roof that serves as a roll cage for its two occupants. According to a statement from the company, the Velocipedo is designed in such a way that it combines the comfort and safety of a car with the quickness of a motorbike; but with greater stability than a motorcycle, thanks to its two front wheels.

Velocipedo will be produced in three basic models; a personal vehicle, Trick Taxi and a cargo vehicle, in Pune (India) in the beginning of next year. The basic model can accommodate two people, has a full cab and seatbelts and helmets are not required. The vehicle has a top speed of 95 kmph, and a range of 200 kilometres per charge. The Velocipedo has a kerb weight of 180 kg, and will take 1.5 hours (on 220V outlet) to fully charge it. It also comes with regenerative braking feature could add 10-20% to the range. The 155 kg Velocipedo-C, which is intended for commercial use, has room only for the driver along with enough space to accommodate 70 kg of cargo. This model just has a basic windshield and it will require a helmet to operate. The first of the Velocipedo electric trikes are expected to be delivered to customers from September 2022.
